Abuja, Nigeria – An enraged shanties’ resident has bitten off a portion of the flesh of a female cop of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Tasks Team.

This was coming as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) resumed demolition of shanties and illegal structures in Katampe Extension.
The cop who began to bleed profusely was rushed to the hospital, while the woman in question was apprehended and taken to Gwarinpa Police Station, Daily Independent reports.
Reacting to the assault, Comrade Ikharo Attah, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to FCT Minister, said the attacker had been handed over to the Police to for investigation.
He said, “Attack on the taskforce is normal in our operation. The female officer that was bitten was very civil, while discharging her duty; we will leave the Police to do their job. She has already been handed over to the Police.
“The SSA reiterated the commitment of the FCT Minister Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, in ridding the nation’s capital of shanties and all illegal structures, especially in highbrow areas and under high tension cables.

“We are addressing some security issues around the highbrow Katampe extension district. What we are seeing in this highbrow area is the issue of extreme criminality occasioned by the people in this area. Whenever there are security challenges in the area most of the things recovered are traced to these people living under the cashew trees, shanties and in Katampe extension.”
Meanwhile, the Assistant Director, Enforcement, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Kaka Bello said, “These are some of the things we experience as an enforcement officers during enforcement, a woman assaulted an officer on duty and you can see the injury she inflicted on her, she has been arrested and she has been taken to Gwarinpa Police station and the law will take its course.”

On Katampe he said, “This is clearing of illegal squatters in Katampe extension, this area is a diplomatic zones, in some of this areas illegal squatters building illegal structures these are things the administration is frowning at, AEPB acts, is against it and we are doing everything we can to ensure we sack such nuisance.
“Apart from the fact that they are environmental nuisances, they also contribute to high rate of crime in this area; there are lots of suspected criminals who have been arrested in this area. They steal from residents; we are here to clear them,” he said.
