KENYA – The mother of a Maseno University student who was shot dead on Monday by police officers in Kisumu County during protests is calling for justice.

Entrance of the Maseno University

Ms Eveline Miruka, speaking to the media said her son – William Mayange a 22-year-old was not guilty of any crime and that the police were wrong in shooting him dead.

According to local media, the grieving mother also claimed that officers who contacted to tell her what had transpired lied to her that her son was in hospital.

“They told me that my son was in hospital receiving treatment but when I rushed there I was shocked when I was told that he died on the spot and his body was in the morgue,” Ms Miruka said.

She recounted the last time she spoke to her son, the same day he met his death. She said that her son requested for somethings which she delivered at the university gate.

“We then agreed that we shall meet in the evening, little did I know that it was the last time I was seeing my son,” she said.
