Abuja, Nigeria – 25-year-old Umar Ismahi has been sentenced to four months imprisonment after the court convicted him for extortion.
A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Monday heard how Mr Ismahi of Map Global junction, Gwarinpa, Abuja waylaid a passerby Felix Awolow on August 8 and ordered him to hand over his mp3 radio or he will be cut with a cutlass.
Prosecution counsel Chinedu Ogada said Mr Awolow complied under threat but soon reported to police operatives down the area.
The police gave Mr Ismahi a hot chase, arrested him and recovered the mp3 radio from him. He was later processed for arraignment.
