Kaduna, Nigeria – No fewer than seven (7) people have been reportedly dead after gunmen attacked a train heading to Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The incident, on Monday which provision toll records seven people dead took place at dusk between Abuja and Kaduna city.

The gunmen mined the track forcing the train, carrying 970 passengers, to a stop on Monday evening. The attackers opened fire on the train and abducted an unknown number of passengers.

It will be recalled that, this is the second time that the rail line between the cities is attacked in the last six months.

Upon the attack, some security agencies rushed to the scene to curb the incident, however, the governor of Kaduna state has condemned the attack, describing it as a terrorist incident.

Over some couple of months now, armed gangs have been active, particularly in northern Nigeria, carrying out killings and kidnappings for ransom despite military attacks against their hideouts.
