FCT, Nigeria – The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) said that a foreign contractor has been arrested for allegedly damaging Abuja’s street lights.
As gathered, Mr. Felix Obuah, AMMC Coordinator, claims that the contractor destroys the current streetlights to obtain new contracts.
Following an inspection of certain ongoing streetlight repairs and maintenance as instructed by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Obuah made the announcement on Tuesday.
However, the AMMC Coordinator, who would not identify the contractor, stated that the business the contractor ran was well-known and that the individual would be subject to the full force of the law.

He clarified that although they were surprised to learn of the contractor’s involvement, they had previously assumed that the vandalism had been committed by scavengers.
According to the coordinator, there are 21 lots of streetlights in Abuja; 18 of these lots have already undergone inspection, and the vandalized areas are currently being repaired.
He said a report would be submitted to the FCT Minister, and further action would be taken on the matter, adding that all those involved would be brought to justice.
Obuah said, “The minister of FCT has given us matching orders to make sure that Abuja is lightened up, and as a matter of fact, I embark on the spot assesment with my team to make sure things work well”.
