Bauchi, Nigeria – At least eleven (11) persons have lost their lives while nine (9) others sustained injuries in a ghastly motor accident that occurred at Hawan Jaki village along Alkaleri- Gombe road in Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi state.
While confirming the incident, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp in Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi, told journalists on Sunday that the accident happened on Saturday at around 5:30pm.
According to him, it involved a Hiace Bus with registration number BA114-A28 belong to the Yankari Express of the Bauchi State Government fleet, driven by one Muhammed Musa and a DAF truck belonging to Dangote Group of Companies with registration number JMU169XA.
“We received a call from a good Samaritan who informed us of a fatal crash that occurred yesterday, Saturday, October 15th, 2022, at Hawan Jaki village, along Alkaleri – Gombe road at 5.30pm.Immediately, our rescue team rushed to the scene within 15 minutes and took the victims to the Alkaleri General Hospital for treatment and confirmation.

“A total of 20 male adults were involved in the crash. Out of the number, 11 persons lost their lives whole nine other persons sustained various degrees of injuries.”
“The FRSC rescue team arrived the scene of the crash 15 minutes after they received the report and rushed the victims to the hospital where nine people were confirmed dead by a medical doctor. Few hours later, additional report indicated that two more people who were injured died in the hospital while receiving treatment. The crash was caused by dangerous driving”, he said.
Abdullahi appealed to motorists to observe traffic regulations especially during the ember months when there are high volumes of vehicular movements on the roads.

“You will recall that few days ago, we flagged off the 2022 ember months campaigns which has the theme: ‘Avoid Speeding, Unsafe Tyres to Arrive Safely.’ During that event, we called on motorists to be more careful and they should obey all the road traffic regulations laid down so that lives and properties can be saved.” he added.
