Lagos, Nigeria – Following the shirtless goal celebration of Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala, yesterday, July 27 2023 in the ongoing Wowen’s World Cup tournament against Austria, a lot of Nigerians have reacted to her action.
It would be recalled that the Barcelona forward, who came on as a second-half substitute, swooped in on a defensive mix-up in the 72nd minute and beat an Australian defender for pace, before slotting past the goalkeeper from a tight angle to hand the Super Falcons a 3-1 lead.
In jubilation mood, the 29-year-old pulled off her jersey and ran to the sideline to celebrate her goal with her teammates, getting a yellow card in the process. Ever since, the photo has generated mixed reactions on social media platforms. Below are some of the gathered reactions by News Webbs reporter;
“Removing your jersey and exposing your body just because you scored a goal doesn’t make sense at all as a woman. Asisat Oshoala really need to fix up.” @numberonetweep tweeted.

“I guess Asisat Oshoala action here goes against Muslim beliefs,So I call on all the Muslim brothers and sisters to stop celebrating her. As a Muslim you can either continue to support her or cancel a woman that has no respect for your religious values.” tweeted @Chally_001.
However, with the latest goal, Oshoala now sets a new record as she becomes the first Nigerian footballer to score in three editions of FIFA World Cup tournaments (2015, 2019 & 2023).
Responding to the reactions from the iconic celebration, Oshola said; “ My dad is definitely not happy with my choice of celebration but then again, Life is a collection of moments.”
